Before I turn 30, I want to own my house, a car, a business, get married and have two kids”
The pressure to figure it out in your 20’s.
“ Before I turn 30, I want to own my house, a car, a business, get married and have two kids”
This was my mindset as a young child, and I lived my life under unnecessary pressure, striving to achieve these goals one after another.
Then COVID hit, followed by another crisis, and yet another one after that. In 2023, I finally broke down; my life wasn’t progressing in the direction I had mapped out, which meant I might not be able to achieve those dreams. On the other hand, life made me realize that I was rushing nowhere. I was living my life as if I intended to die by age 30, procrastinating my happiness until those moments when I had it "figured out."
Being on LinkedIn and Instagram made me feel even worse as I kept seeing people in my age group attain big goals, while my life felt like it was not going anywhere. I started intentionally searching out people who were starting over in their 30s or even 50s to teach myself that "No, they didn’t die when things didn't work out for them." I also learned about timelines; not everyone can have it figured out by 30. For some people, it's earlier, while for others, it's way later, and that's okay.
Firstly, you are so young. When you put your twenties into the perspective of your entire life, you'll realise how young you really are and how you literally have the rest of your life to grow, achieve your goals and do everything you put your mind to.
